Hero Wife Takes Down Armed Robbers After They Shot Her Husband

A man has died after he and his wife fended off three of the four armed robbers during a shootout in an attempt to protect their gun shop in Kansas, police say.
John Bieker, 44, and his wife Rebecca, were caught in a shootout with four men after they tried to rob She’s a Pistol in Shawnee around 2:15 pm on Friday. The couple managed to shoot three of the four intruders. Two are currently in critical condition.
John was also shot during the incident. After being rushed to the hospital, he died.
When police arrived, Rebecca was tending to her wounded husband. She had not been shot, but was punched in the face by one of the robbers.
Shawnee Police caught the two intruders, who were not critically injured, after they found them sitting on the porch of a nearby home not too long after the incident.
Authorities do not know who fired the first shots or if any other customers were in the store at the time.
“Today is a day of great sadness in our city. John and Becky are respected business owners in our community who do things the right way and are always willing to help others,” Mayor Jeff Meyers said in a statement.
“There is no place for this type of violence in Shawnee or any other city. We pride ourselves on being a safe and friendly city and today’s events, while unbelievably tragic, will not change that,” he continued. ”I want to pass along my condolences to the entire Bieker family. As they deal with this tremendous loss, I know our community stands ready to assist in any way that we can.”
The gun shop was owned and run by the couple. The She’s a Pistol website describes the store as a “woman-owned personal protection and self-defense training, services, and supplies company.”
