91 Year-Old Woman Wakes Up In Funeral Home 11 Hours After Being Declared Dead

It sounds like a nightmare or a scene from a horror film. You fall asleep in your bedroom at home and wake up in a freezer at the morgue. However this was what happened to 91 year-oldJanina Kolkiewicz in Poland, who was “declared dead November 6 and sent to a funeral home, only to wake up 11 hours later in cold storage,”according to CNN.

Kolkiewicz’s family called a doctor after they believed she stopped breathing. The doctor, Wieslawa Czyz who refused to face the camera, examined the woman and then declared her dead. “I checked the pulse on the forearm artery, carotid artery also…I listened to the heart, to the breathing. I also examined the pupils. There were no reflexes. Typical symptoms of death.”

The family was planning memorial services, when the funeral home called them to say she had awakened. Polish authorities are investigating the incident, specifically to see if the doctor “exposed the woman to imminent danger or loss of life” because she was placed in cold storage.
