The 44-year-old supermodel followed in the footsteps of Marc Jacobs and Sofia Coppola to donate her Hermes Birkin bag to artist Jeff Koons in order to be customized before it was sold for the huge sum at a recent charity event, the New York Post newspaper’s PageSix reports.
The specially customized leather bag was sold to English jeweller Laurence Graff for $175,000 while American art dealer Larry Gagosian bought a bag that had belonged to gallerist Almine Rech for $275,000.
Meanwhile a sculpture created by Koons sold for an incredible $4million and will be displayed at the prestigious Seagram Building on Park Avenue in New York’s Manhattan for the rest of the week.
Mary J. Blige performed at the Project Perpetual event – which was held to raise money for the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign – attended by guests including Drew Barrymore.
Campbell is not the only celebrity to sell a former belonging for such a large sum of money recently as Madonna’s wedding dress from her nuptials to actor Sean Penn sold for $81,250 at an auction in Beverly Hills last weekend.
The jacket she wore in 1985 movie ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’ sold for an even higher sum of $252,000 while just one earring she wore in the same film fetched $24,375.
