A 15-year-old girl has been arrested after she slit her little brother’s throat and attempted to stab her little sister.
Police in Detroit have arrested 15-year-old Roksana Sikorski and have charged her as an adult with four counts of conspiracy to commit murder and one count of assault.
Police say the girl attacked her 12-year-old brother and tried to go after her younger sister on Friday. All the while, her 23-year-old boyfriend Michael Rivera sat outside in his car texting her instructions.
Police say the girl planned to kill her two siblings and her adoptive parents to run away with Rivera.
Rivera has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit murder and felonious assault as well. Both are being held on $1 million bond.
Police say that Sikorski stabbed her brother and his screams alerted the parents who rushed to his aid.
The boy was taken to Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor and is expected to recover after undergoing surgery.
Police found Sikorski and Rivera just hours after the attack.
Speaking to reporters, the girl’s adoptive mother Laurene, said, “He was using her to do his dirty work. She was under this man’s spell… I think she just thought this guy loved her and she wanted to do whatever he told her, and she was very vulnerable and she has a mental disorder and needs help. I want to make sure she gets help.”
Roksana, who was adopted along with her younger siblings when she was 4 ½ years old, receives treatment for depression and ADHD.
“She’s never been violent in the past,” said Laurene. “We had no clue this was going to happen. She’s getting psychiatric counseling. She’s on medications. We’ve done everything in our power to help her.”
Defense attorney Leslie Posner says the girl lived in horrific conditions in Poland before she was adopted by the Sikorskis.
“They came from a very, very, very bad background,” Posner said. “They were locked in closets. They were beaten.”
