Don’t mind the headline. According to reports, Jon Schultz has sold Ebola.com to a Russian marijuana company, known as the Weed Growth Fund.
Schultz originally purchased the domain in 2008 for $13,500 after watching the movie “Outbreak.” He became interested in diseases and thought Ebola would be a good one to invest in.
“Having seen the movie ‘Outbreak,’ I was entranced by the subject and couldn’t resist buying the domain,” he said.
Recently, in an interview with the Washington Post, he announced that he was willing to sell Ebola.com for $150,000. He described how the page received thousands of views daily and that the traffic would only grow as the disease gained exposure.
Reports by the Verge state that the website has been sold. The SEC filing shows that a Russian company called Weed Growth Fund has purchased the domain for $200,000. The deal will pay Schultz $50,000 in cash and 19,192 shares in a marijuana company called Cannabis Sativa.
