On Saturday night, outside of the Maplewood strip mall, Terrence Jermaine Woods, 25, was shot in the chest. He was rushed to the Regions Hospital in St. Paul where he died from his injuries. His friend, Jamil Isaiah Ellis, 24, was shot in the leg, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Unfortunately, police had to release the 19-year-old suspect due to a lack of evidence. They are urging the public to come forward with any information at all in order to facilitate the proper arrest of the murderer.
Police reports indicated that Ellis and Woods entered Merwin’s Liquor where they were approached by three men, who asked them to purchase alcohol. Ellis and Woods refused prompting a violent response from the teens. As the two men left the liquor store, a white car pulled up and began shooting.
Woods was a manager at Wingstop in Roseville. His general manager commented on the senseless hooting.
This is somebody who didn’t deserve to die. He didn’t buy them alcohol, and he died because of it,” Diana Cox, the general manager at Wingstop said.
“Everybody is down, from the owner to the general manager to me. I’ve got to pull it together for him,” Wood’s cousin, Tyrone Thompson, said.
Opinion:
If you are willing to kill someone over their refusal to buy you alcohol, why not just rob the store? You would receive a much more relaxed sentence for armed robbery than you would for murder. In an ideal world, you would do neither, but this is the United States and we are home to some twisted people.
