A Maine man has been arrested after he allegedly murdered his mother-in-law and sexually abused her body.
Paul Orchard told his mother that he was on a “vapor high” from the fumes while he was sealing 57-year-old Paula Nuttall’s floor.
Police say the 33-year-old man sexually assaulted and strangled Nuttall at her home in front of his 6-year-old daughter.
When police arrived, they say Orchard seemed confused and yelled “I killed my wife.”
In the 911 call, his daughter can be heard yelling, “Daddy, please stop it, please stop it.”
The medical examiner has determined that Nuttall died from strangulation and sexual assault.
Orchard was taken to Rumford Hospital and was found to have ingested some of the polyurethane he was using to seal the floor.
Police say Orchard was naked and covered in polyurethane when they arrived.
On Tuesday, a judge ordered him to not have any contact with his wife and daughter who are witnesses in the case. His wife was at work at the time of the incident.
He is being held without bail.
