Dr. Craig Spencer, who recently traveled to West Africa with the humanitarian group Doctors Without Borders to treat ebola patients, has tested positive for the virus. Wednesday night, his ninth back in the United States, he “developed fever, nausea, pain and fatigue,”according to CNN.
Spencer was taken to Bellevue Hospital in New York by a “specially trained HAZ TAC unit wearing Personal Protection Equipment,” according to Fox News. Doctors Without Borders put out a statement about the incident, saying “As per the specific guidelines that Doctors Without Borders provides its staff on their return from Ebola assignments, [Dr. Craig Spencer] engaged in regular health monitoring and reported this development immediately.”
According to CNN, a team from the CDC is already on its way to New York, notable since they were criticized for how quickly they arrived in Texas after the first U.S. ebola case was diagnosed.
